It’s not an exaggerated statement when I say that a paleo-based diet quite literally changed my life. And if we happened to be friends during the beginning of my real-food journey, I may or may not have been a little annoying with my incessant ramblings on the subject!
Almost ten years ago, after many diagnosed health issues, including extreme fatigue and panic attacks, I discovered I had Celiac – an autoimmune disease. However, it was not a quick and easy fix, and the simple advice to go gluten-free did not create the miraculous health transformation I had so frequently heard about. With little help from the modern medical industry, I soon realized that I needed to be actively in charge of my own body.
I do not define myself by my autoimmune disease, but I have grown to be deeply thankful for what it has taught me. I know what it is like to feel sick and tired on a level that the people around you, although well intentioned, can’t fully understand. I know what it’s like to go from doctor to doctor, taking test after test without any real answers. Sleeping endless amounts of hours and never feeling fully restored, pushing the body beyond what it really feels capable of just to get through basic daily tasks. Celiac or any health struggle does not need to be solely defined by the moments of despair, but instead it can be an incredible opportunity to tap into the body, take care of it on a deeper level, physiologically, emotionally, spiritually in order to give it what it really is asking for. Deep connection, nourishment and support.
Although I no longer take such a dogmatic approach to food, the paleo template was a launch pad into growing and changing many aspects of myself. Eating well and changing my diet were just the starting point, and it has filtered into other areas of my life including movement, lifestyle, and mental and emotional growth. As I continue on this journey, my goal is to share that here with the hopes to connect, support, and inspire you on your own life’s winding path.
I like to use my years of personal experience and current, expanding professional knowledge of nutrition to help clients with their own individual needs. We are all unique and our bodies need to be addressed in a manner that respects its bio-individuality. Maybe you recognize that you may not be feeling your best, you have chronic inflammation, digestive upset, excess weight, fatigue, brain fog, hormone imbalances, an autoimmune disease, poor sleep or just don’t feel like yourself anymore. You’ve reached a point where you are ready to take action and support yourself with real, nutrient-dense whole foods, while creating the building blocks to bring your body back into balance and assist in restoring health and vitality. My goal is to inspire, challenge, encourage and support you in this process so that you can know what it’s like to feel your best!
